| 2009 COLLEGE FOOTBALL - WEEK 3 |
|
Next game: Indiana at Akron on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 7:38am | Chris Jacquemain | QB | Out | Suspension | Jacquemain has been suspended indefinitely from the Zips' football team for a violation of team rules. There is no timetable for his return. Sophomore Matt Rodgers takes over the starting duties while Jacquemain is out. His backup against Indiana will be either RS freshman walk-on Jared Wackerly or freshman Patrick Nicely.

|
Next game: North Texas at Alabama on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 8:07am | Jerrell Harris | LB | Doubtful | Eligibility | Sophomore SLB Jerrell Harris did not play in the first two games of the season due to questions surrounding his eligibility. His status for the Sept 19 game against North Texas is doubtful. Harris received a laptop from Auburn booster Curtis Anderson, the same man who paid for a fishing trip for fellow Alabama sophomores Mark Ingram and Julio Jones. Harris, a reserve SLB (No. 2 on the depth chart), played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2008.
| | 09/19 | 3:08am | Roy Upchurch | RB | Doubtful | Ankle | Senior RB Roy Upchurch suffered a high ankle sprain during his first start in 30 games for the Crimson Tide (Sept 12 vs. FIU). He has not participated in full practice drills this week. His status for the Sept 19 game against North Texas is doubtful. Upchurch was starting in place of sophomore RB Mark Ingram, who had been battling the flu the week of the game. While Upchurch recovers, Terry Grant and true freshman Trent Richardson will take snaps at reserve tailback. | | 09/19 | 3:06am | Julio Jones | WR | Doubtful | Knee | Sophomore WR Julio Jones was knocked out of the game against Florida International with a bruised knee. His status for the Sept 19 game against North Texas is doubtful, as he is not participating in full contact drills in practice. Jones was a second team All SEC performer in 2008, leading Alabama in receiving yards (924), receptions (58), and TD receptions (4). | | 09/15 | 8:14am | Kenny Bell | WR | Questionable | Shin | True freshman WR Kenny Bell has not played all season because of debilitating shin splints that keep him from practicing. He does not participate in any contact drills during practice. His status for the rest of the season is questionable, making him a likely redshirt candidate. | | 09/15 | 8:11am | Damion Square | DE | Out For Year | Torn ACL | Redshirt freshman DE Damion Square tore his ACL during the Sept 12 game against Florida International and will miss the rest of the 2009 season. "It's really too bad," Saban said. "He got redshirted last year and was promising freshman. We were hopeful that he would give us great depth. But it gives somebody else an opportunity to go out and play." | | 08/26 | 6:09am | Petey Smith | LB | Out For Year | Grayshirt | True freshman LB Petey Smith will delay his arrival to Alabama until January 2010. The reserve MLB was listed as the No.3 MLB on the depth chart.
| | 08/26 | 6:08am | Alonzo Lawrence | S | Out For Year | Dismissed | Redshirt freshman Alonzo Lawrence was dismissed from the team during the summer session. Lawrence was listed as the No. 3 SS on the depth chart.
| | 08/26 | 6:03am | Charlie Kirschman | LB | Out For Year | Medical scholarship | Junior WLB Charlie Kirschman is being placed on medical scholarship. The reserve WLB is listed as the No.4 WLB on the depth chart.
| | 08/26 | 5:54am | Jennings Hester | LB | Out For Year | Medical scholarship | Sophomore reserve MLB Jennings Hester will receive a medical scholarship. The No.4 MLB's absence leaves Alabama with no depth at the MLB position.
| | 08/26 | 5:52am | Evan Cardwell | C | Out For Year | Medical scholarship | Reserve center Evan Cardwell was placed on medical scholarship. The senior was slated as the No.3 center on the depth chart. Cardwell made seven starts during his Crimson Tide career.
| | 08/26 | 5:44am | Charlie Higgenbotham | LB | Out For Year | Transfer | Junior MLB Charlie Higgenbotham will transfer to South Alabama. The reserve MLB (No.2 on depth chart) recorded four tackles in 2008. Higgenbotham's departure leaves the Crimson Tide without much depth at the MLB position.
| | 08/26 | 5:41am | Chris Jackson | WR | Out For Year | Transfer | Sophomore WR Chris Jackson will transfer to Georgia Tech. The reserve WR moved from DB, where he made six tackles as a true freshman in 2008. As a wide receiver, Jackson was slated to be third-string behind Marquis Maze and Brandon Gibson.
| | 08/17 | 4:37pm | Brandon Fanney | LB | Out For Year | Transfer | Fanney has been granted permission to transfer from UA. The 2008 starter was third on the team with 66 tackles - nine for a loss. With Fanney's departure look for senior Eryk Anders to take over the starting job.
| | 08/07 | 6:48pm | Prince Hall | LB | Out For Year | Transfer | Hall will play his senior season at Central Washington. The often-troubled linebacker has been suspended a number of times during his time at Alabama and decided it was time leave the program.

|
Next game: Ball State at Army on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 7:25am | CeDarius Williams | FB | Out | Ankle | Williams will not play on Saturday Sept. 19 against Ball State due to an ankle injury. The starting FB will likely be replaced by slot back Pat Mealy in formations with a fullback. Mealy enters week three with just over 200 yards rushing, tops on the team.
| | 09/19 | 6:55am | Trent Steelman | QB | Probable | Ribs | Starting QB Steelman, the first freshman to start at Army in over 50 years, was limited on Saturday Sept. 12 against Duke due to an injury to his ribs. Consider him probable to play heading into week three, but his role is TBD. Junior QB Chip Bowden, the starter in 2008, had been taking the bulk of the first team reps in practice, but it was Carson Williams who saw the game day snaps when Steelman was out.
|
|
Next game: West Virginia at Auburn on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 3:05am | Montez Billings | WR | Out For Year | Left team | Senior WR Montez Billings left the team to pursue other opportunities. Billings has already graduated from Auburn University. As the leading returning receiver (24 receptions, 227 receiving yards in 2008), Billings was expected to start again this season and vie for the top receiver slot. His departure leaves a giant hole at WR that needs to be replaced immediately. | | 09/17 | 9:45am | Antoine Carter | DE | Questionable | Knee | Junior DE Antoine Carter has returned to practice this week (Sept 14) after missing most of the fall preseason camp and the first two games of the season. The No. 2 DE is expected to be available for the game on Sept 19 against West Virginia, but it is not known at this time if he will play according to defensive line coach Tracy Rocker. | | 09/17 | 9:38am | Drew Cole | S | Out | Ankle | Sophomore FS Drew Cole will miss the Sept 19 game against West Virginia with an ankle injury. Cole sustained the injury during Auburn's SEC opener against Mississippi State. Cole's absence, combined with the preseason injuries to Aairon Savage and Mike McNeil, thins out the Auburn defensive back rotation. | | 09/17 | 9:22am | Tommy Trott | TE | Doubtful | Knee | Senior TE Tommy Trott injured his right knee during the Sept 12 game against Mississippi State. His status for the game against West Virginia is doubtful. Says head coach Gene Chizik, "Right now, we just don't know." In 2008, Trott made 11 starts at TE and amassed over 200 receiving yards. If Trott is unable to go, true freshman Phillip Lutzenkirchen will start in his place. | | 08/26 | 6:27am | Rudy Odom | G | Out For Year | Left team | Senior RG Rudy Odom left the team for the second time this year. The No. 2 RG on the depth chart played in two games last season while struggling through various injuries.
| | 08/22 | 12:44pm | Tim Hawthorne | WR | Out | Foot | Junior receiver Tim Hawthorne is still recovering from a broken foot in July and is expected to miss at least the first four games of the season. The Tigers had high hopes for Hawthorne as he emerged as the No. 1 receiving threat in the spring. Junior Terrell Zachery, sophomore Darvin Adams and senior Montez Billings are currently the frontrunners to start.
| | 08/22 | 12:40pm | Michael McNeil | DB | Out | Leg | Junior Mike McNeil is still rehabbing from a broken leg and probably will not be ready until midseason. Freshman Daren Bates has made a favorable impression in each of the team's first two scrimmages and it looks like HC Chizik has found the player who will step up in McNeil's absence.
| | 08/22 | 12:04pm | Aairon Savage | DB | Out For Year | Achilles | Projected starter Aairon Savage tore his Achilles and is out for the season. | | 08/09 | 5:45pm | Christian Thompson | S | Out For Year | Left Team | Sophomore safety Thompson has left the football program. It is unclear if he left of his own accord or was dismissed. Thompson played in 10 games in 2008 as a true freshman logging one tackle. He played a bigger role during the spring with starters Zac Etheridge and Mike McNeil limited by injuries.
| | 08/09 | 5:43pm | Marcus Jemison | LB/S | Out For Year | Left Team | Reserve LB/S Jemison has left the football program. It is unclear if he left of his own accord or was dismissed. Jemison redshirted last season after sustaining an injury. | | 08/09 | 5:42pm | Jomarcus Savage | DL | Out For Year | Left Team | Redshirt freshman Savage has left the team. It is unclear if he left of his own accord or was dismissed. Savage redshirted last season after sustaining an injury.
|
|
Next game: Ball State at Army on 09/19 |
| 09/08 | 1:52am | Madaris Grant | TE | Out For Year | Knee | Grant tore his ACL in the first quarter of the season opener and will undergo surgery in a couple of weeks. The senior and team captain will petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility. After Thursday's loss, HC Parrish said Grant was the one player he couldn't afford to lose. Grant's replacement has not been determined. Sophomore Ryan Hartke, who had never played the position before, filled in Thursday night but was called for a holding penalty that nullified a Ball State touchdown. Freshman Zane Fakes, a converted running back, will compete with Hartke for the starting job.
| | 08/13 | 2:07am | Derrick Henry | S | Out For Year | Academics | Junior Derrick Henry was expected to provide depth in the Cardinals' secondary but is not with the team because of what coach Stan Parrish termed "academic issues" encountered during the spring semester. Henry finished 2008 with 42 tackles, but he had only 12 in the final seven games. While unable to play regularly on defense, he was regarded as a key performer on special teams.

|
Next game: Connecticut at Baylor on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 9:56am | Jeremy Williams | SS | Questionable | Ankle | Williams suffered a mild ankle sprain in practice this week that has left him questionable to play on Saturday Sept. 19 against UConn. With Williams expected to be limited at best, Byron Landor is penciled in for more snaps, however Landor himself is just getting over an injury.
| | 09/19 | 9:55am | Byron Landor | SS | Probable | Knee | Top reserve safety Landor sat out Baylor's first game with a sprained knee. He is hopeful to play on Sept. 19 against UConn even after the bye week. With the junior probable, the Bears will likely press him into duty aside Jordan Lake as Jeremy Williams is nicked up.
|
|
Next game: Boston College at Clemson on 09/19 |
| 09/18 | 12:18pm | Mike McLaughlin | LB | Doubtful | Achilles | Senior LB Mike McLaughlin missed the first two games of the season and is doubtful for the Sept 19 game against Clemson. When healthy, McLaughlin is expected to provide stability to a linebacker crew that lost its leader, Mark Herzlich, to cancer for the entire 2009 season. In 2008, McLaughlin started all 14 games for Boston College and was second on the team in tackles with 89 (53 solo) and four sacks.
| | 09/18 | 12:18pm | Ifeanyi Momah | WR | Doubtful | Knee | Junior WR Ifeanyi Momah has been out indefinitely with a sprained right medial collateral ligament injury, but he is listed as doubtful for the Sept 19 game against Clemson. The reserve receiver caught 11 passes in 2008 for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns (second on the team last season).
| | 09/18 | 12:17pm | Will Thompson | LB | Doubtful | Shoulder | Sophomore LB Will Thompson missed the first two games of the season and is doubtful for the Sept 19 game against Clemson. Thompson is listed as the No. 1 WLB on the depth chart. In Thompson's absence, true freshman Luke Kuechly will see significant playing time.
| | 09/18 | 12:16pm | James McCluskey | FB | Out | Achilles | Junior FB James McCluskey battled an Achilles injury for most of fall preseason camp and has missed the first two games of the season. He is ruled out for the Sept 19 game against Clemson. In 2008, McCluskey rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown and also caught 19 passes for 123 yards. Senior DT Brendan Deska could see action at FB during McCluskey's absence.
| | 09/17 | 8:52am | Damik Scafe | DT | Doubtful | Undisclosed | Junior DT Damik Scafe did not practice on Sept 16, and his status for the Sept 19 game against Clemson is questionable. Scafe and sophomore Kaleb Ramsey are being depended upon to fill the void left by NFL draft picks BJ Raji and Ron Brace at DT. | | 08/10 | 5:33pm | Mark Herzlich | LB | Out For Year | Cancer | Herzlich has been diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer in his left leg. The ACC Defensive Player of the year is two months into an aggressive chemotherapy plan and will not play in 2009. The cancer gives him a five-percent higher chance of breaking his leg. "If it breaks, the cancer spreads," he said.
| | 08/10 | 5:23pm | Dominique Davis | QB | Out For Year | Academics | Projected starting quarterback Dominique Davis was declared academically ineligible and will transfer out of the BC program. The QB position in BC is a bit chaotic. There are six QB's on the roster, NONE of which have taken an in-game snap from under center in their careers. Billy Flutie has played college ball - at wide receiver, punter and holder - but he will only get a handful of chances for "change-of-pace" snaps. Codi Boek played in every game last year, including four starts - at FullBack. The other four candidates are either true freshmen or redshirt freshmen. |
|
Next game: California at Minnesota on 09/19 |
| 09/09 | 11:21pm | Spencer Ladner | TE | Out | Knee | Starter Spencer Ladner suffered a knee injury in the season opener that will keep him out of action at least three weeks. Sophomore Anthony Miller will take over as the starting tight end, but the Bears are woefully thin behind him. Skyler Curran caught his first pass last Saturday. Jarrett Sparks is a converted reciever. Garry Graffort is a junior walk-on.
| | 08/19 | 5:30pm | Tad Smith | TE | Out For Year | Knee | Tad Smith has a torn ACL in his right knee and is out for the season. Unless he petitions the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, his college career is over. The fifth-year senior used his redshirt year in 2005. Smith had been battling sophomore Anthony Miller for the starting job. He was primarily a backup last season and played in 12 games, catching three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown. Smith's absence means Miller should begin the season as the starting TE with senior Skylar Curran and RS freshmen Jarrett Sparks and Spencer Ladner fighting for a backup role. |
|
Next game: FCS (1-AA) Opponent at Central Michigan on 09/19 |
| 08/13 | 1:22am | Taylor Bradley | CB | Out For Year | Academics | Junior Taylor Bradley will not be with the 2009 football team because of academic ineligibility. One of two seniors, Tommy Mama or Kirkston Edwards, is the likely candidate to take over the CB spot for the projected starter.
| | 08/13 | 1:17am | Josh Allison | DT | Out For Year | Unknown | Sophomore Josh Allison's career is apparently over due to an unspecified injury. The Chippewas return senior Frank Zombo, an All-MAC selection, junior Sean Murnane, senior Sam Williams and senior Larry Knight along the defensive line. Past that, HC Butch Jones said the key will be to develop depth and have younger players step up and contribute. "Our defensive line, we're probably going to (need) one or two freshman to be able to step up and give us some reps there," he said.
|
|
Next game: Wyoming at Colorado on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 6:57am | Cody Hawkins | QB | Probable | Concussion | Hawkins suffered a mild concussion after a brutal hit late in week two. While he did not return to the game, he has pronounced himself ready to go on Saturday Sept. 19 against Wyoming, saying "I feel good. Probably in a little bit more pain than I've been since I've been
here. But I'm feeling good and I'll be ready to go by Saturday." Hawkins, like all Buffs' QBs wont take any contact in practice this week. Tyler Hansen is his primary back-up.
| | 09/19 | 6:57am | Rodney Stewart | RB | Probable | Hamstring | A hamstring injury kept starting RB Stewart from playing in week two against Toledo but he is expected to return on Saturday Sept. 19 against Wyoming. Darrell Scot took more carries in week two with Stewart out and remains the #2 RB for the Buffs.
| | 09/17 | 8:40am | Markques Simas | WR | Questionable | Suspension/Leg | It's probable best to consider projected starting wide receiver Markques Simas questionable on Saturday Sept. 19 against Wyoming. While he had been suspended for the Buffaloes' first two games of the 2009 season, that punishment has ended and he is eligible, however Simas has suffered a leg injury in practice that threatens to keep him out. Simas' suspension was significant because the sophomore has developed into the Buffaloes' top deep threat at its thin receiving position. His return should greatly help to turn around an 0-2 season.
| | 09/17 | 7:53am | Mike Iltis | C | Probable | Ankle | Starting center Iltis continues to be limited in practice by an ankle injury suffered in week one, While the injury has not forced Iltis to miss any time, Colorado is prepared for backup center Keegan Stevens to spell him if necessary on Sept. 19 against Wyoming.
| | 09/17 | 7:50am | Bryce Givens | OL | Out | Personal | Starting offensive lineman Givens will not play on Saturday Sept. 19 against Wyoming as he attends to a personal matter. Givens has started the Buffs first two games at right tackle and his departure has led to some line shuffling. Ryan Miller moves from RG to RT, and either Blake Behrens or Matt Bahr will play RG. Neither of the latter two have appeared in a game yet this season.
| | 09/16 | 10:40am | Matthew Bahr | OL | Probable | Ankle | Bahr did not playin Colorado's first two games because of a high ankle sprain. He is expected to return on Saturday Sept. 19 against Wyoming. Bahr is being counted on as the "sixth" offensive lineman, meaning he'll be the first option off the bench at both tackle and guard when healthy.
| | 09/16 | 10:40am | Michael Sipili | LB | Probable | Knee | Sipili did not play on Saturday Sept. 5 against Colorado State or on Friday Sept. 11 against Toledo, but consider him probable to return on Sept. 19 against Wyoming. When healthy, Sipili is among the top linebacking options for the Buffs.
| | 09/02 | 6:10am | Sione Tau | OL | Out For Year | Suspension | Tau has been suspended for the fall semester by the Colorado football team for an undisclosed reason, essentially rendering him out for the season. The sophomore was expected to provide depth on the offensive line.
| | 09/02 | 5:59am | Nick Kasa | DE | Out | Knee | Freshman Nick Kasa will be out for at least the Buffs' season opener on Sept. 5 against Colorado State after tearing the MCL in his left knee. Team officials are hoping that the injury is not as serious as originally diagnosed but Kasa could be out for as much as 6-8 weeks. A redshirt could be a possibility for the Buffaloes' top 2009 recruit if the knee requires surgery. Marquez Herrod is expected to be one of the starting DE. Sophomores Conrad Obi and LaGrone Shields have the inside track for playing time, followed by sophomore David Goldberg and freshman Nick O'Neill.
| | 08/10 | 4:09pm | Devin Head | RG | Out For Year | Academics | Head has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2009 season. He started 10 games a year ago but out of spring training it appears sophomore Ryan Miller regained the starting role after taking a medical redshirt last season. Miller earned first team All-America honors his freshman year.
| | 08/10 | 4:05pm | Josh Smith | WR | Out For Year | Transfer | Junior wide receiver Josh Smith has decided to transfer to pursue a musical career. He started 5 games last year and caught 29 passes for 387 yards. Coach Hawkins still has his main receiving threat in Scotty McKnight for 2009 but is looking at a plethora of inexperienced receivers to fill Smith's shoes.

|
Next game: Connecticut at Baylor on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 6:58am | Zach Fraser | QB | Out | Knee | Frazer had to leave UConn's week two matchup against UNC due to a right knee injury and he did not return. While Fraser did not suffer a season-ending injury and will not require surgery, UConn HC Randy Edsall has announced that he will be out for at least two weeks. Cody Enders becomes the Huskies starting QB and Mike Box is elevated into the #2 role. Enders was largely ineffective replacing Fraser in week two.
| | 09/19 | 6:58am | Cody Enders | QB | Probable | Illness | Enders has missed some practice time early this week with a flu bug that has been passing through the team. The newly appointed starting QB is expected to be fine in time for the game on Sept. 19 against Baylor however. Mike Box has been taking the first team reps with Enders out, and impressing, according to HC Randy Edsall, so it would not surprise to see Box take some snaps on Saturday, limiting Enders.
| | 09/19 | 6:58am | Sio Moore | LB | Doubtful | Hamstring | Reserve LB Moore did not play on Saturday Sept. 12 against North Carolina due to a hamstring strain. He is unlikely to play again on Saturday Sept. 19 against Baylor as UConn HC Randy Edsall says Moore is being evaluated on a week to week basis. He provides depth in the linebacking corps when healthy.
| | 09/19 | 6:57am | Scott Lutrus | LB | Questionable | Neck | Lutrus, who did not play last week due to a neck injury suffered in week one, remains questionable heading into Saturday Sept. 19 against Baylor. He has not taken any contact this week in practice but still hopes to be ready for the weekend. His status will likely end up being a game time decision. The starting LB led UConn in tackles last year and is especially valuable as a run stopper on passing downs or when the opponent is in a passing formation.
| | 09/18 | 8:30am | Michael Smith | WR | Out | Knee | Smith will not travel with UConn to face Baylor on Saturday Sept. 19 due to a knee injury suffered last week in practice. Though he suited up in week two against UNC and actually did get onto the field, doctors ordered him to rest after an MRI this week. The sophomore has not caught a pass this season and provides depth when healthy.
| | 09/14 | 8:30am | Jerome Junior | S | Probable | Leg | Junior was injured during UConn's match-up with UNC on Saturday Sept. 12 and could not finish the game but UConn HC Randy Edsall has said his injury is insignificant and Junior will not miss any time. Consider him extremely probable to play on Saturday Sept. 19 against Baylor.
| | 09/14 | 8:29am | Ryan Griffin | TE | Out | Back | Griffin was forced to leave UConn's game on Saturday Sept. 12 against UNC with a significant back injury that will force him to miss at least the next two games according to HC Randy Edsall. With Griffin on the shelf, look for John Delahunt and Corey Manning to pick up the slack at TE.
| | 09/12 | 8:04pm | Dwayne Gratz | CB | Questionable | Knee | Gratz did not play on Saturday Sept. 12 against UNC due to a shoulder injury and is questionable to go on Saturday Sept. 19 against Baylor. The redshirt freshman DB has been impressive throughout camp and now the season and has earned significant playing time as a reserve, primarily at the nickle and dime back position.
| | 08/25 | 12:29pm | Harris Agbor | S | Out | Knee | Reserve safety Harris Agbor suffered an LCL injury and is expected to be out at least six weeks. Senior Robert Vaughn is the lone safety on the roster with any valuable playing time under his belt.
| | 08/25 | 12:24pm | Matt Ashmead | LB | Out For Year | Left Team | Reserve LB Matt Ashmead has graduated and moved on. He appeared to be buried on the weakside linebacker depth chart.
| | 08/25 | 12:22pm | Beau Brunelli | DT | Out | Suspension | Reserve DT Beau Brunelli has been suspended indefinitely for violating athletic department policies. The RS freshman was not likely to see much playing time in 2009.
| | 08/25 | 12:20pm | Aaron Bagsby | FS | Out | Suspension | Sophomore Aaron Bagsby has been suspended indefinitely for violating athletic department policies. He started two games in 2008 and picked off two passes. Outside of senior stud Robert Vaughn, the Huskies are largely inexperienced at safety.
| | 08/25 | 12:17pm | Yianni Apostolakos | TE | Out For Year | Hip | Sophomore Yianni Apostolakos is done playing football. His hip injury will not allow him to play the game anymore. Three redshirt freshmen remain on the roster at tight end; Ryan Griffin and John Delahunt have separated themselves from the pack according to HC Edsall. Both are big and physical and could help out the offense tremendously.
| | 08/25 | 12:11pm | John Yurek | S | Out For Year | Knee | Reserve safety John Yurek suffered a knee injury and will miss the 2009 season. RS freshman Jerome Junior will solidify his role as backup to 2nd TM BE stud Robert Vaughn at free safety.
| | 08/25 | 12:09pm | Jimmy Bennett | OL | Out For Year | Knee | RS freshman Jimmy Bennett will have season-ending surgery on Friday after injuring his knee. He was battling senior Dan Ryan all spring and through the early days of camp for a starting job. Sophomore Mike Ryan becomes the third tackle.
| | 08/11 | 2:01am | Marcus Campbell | DE | Out For Year | Left Team | Projected starter Marcus Campbell will not play for the Huskies this season. Team officials did not give a reason for his departure saying only that he would not be enrolled in school this fall. The junior played in 11 games as a reserve in 2008, recording 3.5 sacks. He was expected to start this season and help UConn replace departed seniors Cody Brown and Julius Williams at defensive end.

|
Next game: Georgia at Arkansas on 09/19 |
| 09/19 | 1:56am | Justin Houston | DE | Probable | Suspension | Sophomore DE Justin Houston served a two-game suspension for an unspecific violation of team rules that occurred during the summer. Houston, the No. 2 RDE, is expected to fill the void created by losing senior Roderick Battle to a season-ending injury. | | 09/19 | 1:50am | Kiante Tripp | DE | Out | Shoulder | Junior DE Kiante Tripp will likely miss the Arkansas game on Sept 19 with a shoulder stinger that is not healing properly. Tripp missed the season opener against Oklahoma State with the injury but played in the Bulldogs' home opener against South Carolina. The No. 2 LDE made three starts at OT in 2008. In his place, redshirt freshman Cornelius Washington (who has been impressive in practice) will see significant action. | | 09/19 | 1:44am | Quintin Banks | S | Out | Knee | Junior strong safety Quintin Banks sustained a knee injury during preseason camp and did not play against Oklahoma State. Banks did not play on Sept 12 against South Carolina and is not expected to play on Sept 19 against Arkansas. Hes on the front end of when he could come back, and he looked good [at practice this week], and then it puffed up on him, Richt said. Thats typical. You kind of back them down and get the swelling out and try again. In Banks' absence, freshman Bacarri Rambo continues to see significant action.
| | 09/17 | 10:23am | Josh Davis | T | Probable | Shoulder | Junior LT Josh Davis began practicing with the scout team last week and will be available again this week against Arkansas on Sept 19. Davis is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in January that required surgery. Head coach Mark Richt seems optimistic that he could see action on Saturday. Davis' availability is important with starter Trinton Sturdivant being out for the season. | | 09/17 | 10:22am | Darius Dewberry | LB | Out | Groin | Senior LB Darius Dewberry missed the Sept 12 game against South Carolina. Dewberry is listed as the No. 1 SLB on the Bulldogs' depth chart. Junior Akeem Dent filled in for Dewberry against South Carolina. He will sit out the Sept 19 game against Arkansas according to head coach Mark Richt. | | 09/17 | 10:21am | Makiri Pugh | S | Probable | Illness | RS freshman FS Makiri Pugh did not play against South Carolina despite being available after his bout with H1N1. His status for the game against Arkansas is probable, as he has been involved in full contact drills in practice since Sept 9. | | 09/17 | 10:19am | Caleb King | RB | Probable | Hamstring | Sophomore RB Caleb King did not play against South Carolina on Sept 12. King ranked second on the team last year behind Knowshon Moreno in rushing yards. Sophomore Richard Samuel is seeing time as the #1 tailback in King's absence. However, King's status for the Sept 19 game against Arkansas is "very probable" according to head coach Mark Richt.
| | 09/15 | 9:57am | Kris Durham | WR | Out For Year | Shoulder | Senior WR Kris Durham will redshirt this season after injuring his shoulder during spring practice. In 2008, Durham made four starts and caught 13 passes. | | 09/14 | 10:12am | Roderick Battle | DE | Out For Year | Torn ACL | Senior DE Roderick Battle will miss the rest of the 2009 season with a torn ACL.
