| 2009 COLLEGE FOOTBALL - WEEK 5 |
|
Next game: Vanderbilt at Army on 10/10
|
| 10/03 | 6:18am | Trent Steelman | QB | Probable | Hip | Freshman QB Steelman is probable to start on Oct. 3 against Tulane despite suffering a hip injury in week four against Ball State. While Steelman is on track to start his fifth consecutive game, he has also missed time in all the previous four due to minor injuries, meaning plenty of playing time for backup Chip Bowden. In fact HC Rich Ellerson has said that he believes there are times when Bowden provides better matchups at QB, so expect to see some of the senior on Saturday. |
| 10/03 | 6:16am | CeDarius Williams | FB | Questionable | Ankle | Williams did not play on Saturday Sept. 19 against Ball State or on Sept. 26 against Iowa State due to an ankle injury and is questionable to return on Oct. 3 against Tulane. The starting FB was replaced by slot back Pat Mealy in formations with a fullback. Mealy enters week four with just over 200 yards rushing, tops on the team. |
|
Next game: Baylor at Oklahoma on 10/10
|
| 10/03 | 6:18am | Blake Szymanski | QB | Probable | Shoulder | Szymanski, who is Baylor's starting QB with sophomore Robert Griffin out for the season, suffered a bruised shoulder in week four's win over Northwestern State but is probable to play on Oct. 3 against Kent State. X-Rays were negative and the senior is officially being considered day-to-day by HC Art Briles. It is not known who would start at QB for the Bears if Szymanski is unable to play. Nick Florence is listed as the #3 QB, but its also possible the Bears burn the redshirt of talented freshman Brody Trahan. |
| 10/03 | 6:18am | Jay Finley | RB | Probable | Ankle | Starting halfback Finley did not play on Sept. 26 against Northwestern State but is probable to return on Oct. 3 against Kent State. The star runner had 121 yards and a TD against UConn before leaving injured. Terrence Ganaway would continue to be the featured back if Finley's outlook dims. |
| 09/28 | 8:22am | Robert Griffin | QB | Out For Year | Knee | Griffin suffered a torn ACL in week four's win over Northwestern State and will not play again this season. The talented sophomore was initially injured on the first drive of the game when his leg bent awkwardly as he was tackled, but Griffin remained in the game until halftime with his knee heavily wrapped before being removed for good. Griffin was responsible for 28 total touchdowns as a freshman in 2008 and considered the Bears best hope of making a bowl game in 2009. Senior Blake Szymanski, who was the starting QB before Griffin arrived on campus, is slated to take over the starting spot. |
| 09/28 | 8:21am | Mikail Baker | DB | Out For Year | Knee | Baker is out for the season after tearing his ACL in week four against Northwestern State. The senior defensive back sees action in nickle and dime packages, but perhaps his biggest contributions come on special teams, where he is the Bears top kick returner. | | 09/21 | 7:49am | Antareis Bryan | CB | Out | Foot | Starting CB Bryan, the most experienced member of the Bears secondary, is out 6-8 weeks after breaking a bone in his foot during week three's match-up with UConn. Bryan will replaced by the tandem of Clifton Odom and Mikail Baker. |
|
Next game: Boston College at Virginia Tech on 10/10
|
| 10/02 | 11:36am | Ifeanyi Momah | WR | Out | Knee | Junior WR Ifeanyi Momah has been out indefinitely with a sprained right medial collateral ligament injury (missed the Wake Forest game on Sept 26; not expected to play vs. FSU). It has been reported that Momah is healthy enough to play, but the Boston College coaching staff wants to redshirt him (which is why he isn't expected to play the rest of the season barring injury to other WRs). The reserve receiver caught 11 passes in 2008 for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns (second on the team last season). | | 10/02 | 11:35am | James McCluskey | FB | Doubtful | Achilles | Junior FB James McCluskey has battled an Achilles injury for most of fall preseason camp and has missed the first four games of the season. He is doubtful for the Florida State game In 2008, McCluskey rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown and also caught 19 passes for 123 yards. Senior DT Brendan Deska could see action at FB during McCluskey's absence. |
| 10/02 | 11:35am | Will Thompson | LB | Doubtful | Shoulder | Sophomore LB Will Thompson missed the first four games of the season and is doubtful for the Florida State game. Thompson is listed as the No. 1 WLB on the depth chart. In Thompson's absence, true freshman Luke Kuechly has excelled. |
| 10/02 | 11:34am | Dominick LeGrande | LB | Probable | Undisclosed | Sophomore LB Dominick LeGrande left practice (Sept 24) with an undisclosed injury and missed the Wake Forest game. His status for the Florida State game is probable. LeGrande is one of the leaders on the Boston College defense thus far this season due to the injuries to Mike McLaughlin and the cancer battle of All-American Mark Herzlich. Redshirt freshman Nick Clancy will start at SLB for LeGrande against Wake. |
| 10/02 | 10:31am | Jordan McMichael | TE | Probable | Leg | Junior TE Jordan McMichael is battling a minor leg injury but should be ready to go against FSU. McMichael caught a 50-yard touchdown pass (the longest of his career) from QB David Shinskie during BC's recent win over WF. | | 10/02 | 10:26am | Roderick Rollins | CB | Out | Hamstring | Senior CB Roderick Rollins will miss the FSU game with a hamstring injury, but he vows to return against Virginia Tech (Oct 10). Rollins injured his hamstring during the fourth quarter of the Wake Forest game. The No. 1 LCB on the depth chart will be replaced by sophomore Isaac Johnson, who made a game-saving hit on WF's Riley Skinner during OT to preserve a win for the Eagles. |
| 08/10 | 5:33pm | Mark Herzlich | LB | Out For Year | Cancer | Herzlich has been diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer in his left leg. The ACC Defensive Player of the year is two months into an aggressive chemotherapy plan and will not play in 2009. The cancer gives him a five-percent higher chance of breaking his leg. "If it breaks, the cancer spreads," he said. | | 08/10 | 5:23pm | Dominique Davis | QB | Out For Year | Academics | Projected starting quarterback Dominique Davis was declared academically ineligible and will transfer out of the BC program. The QB position in BC is a bit chaotic. There are six QB's on the roster, NONE of which have taken an in-game snap from under center in their careers. Billy Flutie has played college ball - at wide receiver, punter and holder - but he will only get a handful of chances for "change-of-pace" snaps. Codi Boek played in every game last year, including four starts - at FullBack. The other four candidates are either true freshmen or redshirt freshmen. |
|
Next game: Cincinnati at South Florida on 10/15
|
| 10/03 | 6:19am | Dominique Battle | CB | Out | Undisclosed | Battle has been ruled out for the second straight week due to an undisclosed reason and will not play on Oct. 3 against Miami of Ohio. In his stead, junior Marcus Bennett, who is primarily a wide receiver, will remain on defense and take over at CB. Bennett earned his first career start last week in place of Battle. |
| 10/03 | 6:19am | John Goebel | RB | Out | Hamstring | Goebel remains out indefinitely with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action all season long. The redshirt freshman was in the mix for carries during fall camp but obviously now health is his only concern. | | 09/20 | 7:39am | Curtis Young | LB | Out | Knee | Cincinnati's defense suffered a huge blow when senior LB Young suffered a knee injury in practice leading up to week three's match-up with Oregon State and required surgery. Young is expected to miss 2-3 weeks while recovering. The Linebacker/DE hybrid started the first two games of the year, recording 13 tackles and a sack. |
| 09/18 | 2:22pm | Malik James | DB | Out For Year | Left Team | Sophomore DB James has left the University of Cincinnati to return to his native California, ending his football career as a Bearcat. James played sparingly, primarily appearing on special teams in his one plus year on the team. | | 08/11 | 1:57am | Vidal Hazelton | WR | Out For Year | Eligibility | Projected starter and USC transfer Vidal Hazelton will not play in 2009 after the NCAA denied his request to become immediately eligible. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound receiver caught 50 passes for 540 yards with the Trojans in 2007. Bothered by a high ankle sprain last season, he had only six receptions. Hazelton's addition could have given Cincinnati the deepest receiving corps in the Big East. The Bearcats still return Mardy Gilyard, a first-team All-Big East performer last year, and improving sophomore D.J. Woods. |
|
Next game: Duke at North Carolina State on 10/10
|
| 10/02 | 11:28am | Kyle Griswould | RB | Out | Leg | True freshman RB Kyle Griswould has missed the first four games of the season and had surgery on his knee recently. It is believed that Griswould's prolonged absence makes it easier for the Duke coaching staff to redshirt him. Prior to the injury, Griswould had outperformed highly touted local product Desmond Scott, though it was never certain that either would appear in a game this season. | | 10/02 | 11:27am | Randez James | CB | Out | Hand | Redshirt freshman CB Randez James missed a fourth consecutive game with a hand injury. The reserve CB has not seen action in a Duke uniform, as he was suspended for the 2009 Spring Game and has been nursing a hand injury since mid August. |
| 10/02 | 9:09am | Mitchell Lederman | G | Probable | Leg | Junior OG Mitchell Lederman missed the NC Central game with a leg injury. His status for the Virginia Tech game is upgraded to probable. Lederman was listed as the No. 1 RT on the preseason depth chart before making the move to G. |
| 10/02 | 9:08am | Vince Oghobaase | DT | Probable | Leg | Senior DT Vince Oghobaase missed the NC Central game with a leg injury, though it is believed that he could have played if his team needed him. He is probable for the Virginia Tech game. Oghobaase is considered to be the top defensive tackle in the ACC and a strong All-American candidate. The injury that bothered Oghobaase was a re-aggravation of the injury the All-ACC defensive tackle suffered prior to the Kansas game. Oghobaase led Duke with six sacks in 2008. |
| 10/02 | 9:06am | Jay Hollingsworth | RB | Probable | Ankle | Junior RB Jay Hollingsworth played against NC Central game but was limited by an ankle injury. His status for the Virginia Tech game is probable. The No. 2 RB on the depth chart was Duke's leading rusher in 2008 (108 attempts; 399 yards--both team highs). Both Hollingsworth and the No. 1 RB, Re'quan Boyette, are attempting to shake off the ill effects of their injuries. |
| 10/02 | 9:04am | Re'quan Boyette | RB | Probable | Leg | Senior RB Re'quan Boyette missed the game against NC Central with a leg injury. He has been upgraded to probable for the Virginia Tech game. Boyette is Duke's No. 1 RB in 2009 after being injured in 2008. He and the No. 2 RB, Jay Hollingsworth, are both returning from injuries that limited their production in practice the week of the NCCU game. |
| 10/02 | 9:03am | Jarrod Holt | G | Questionable | Concussion | Senior LG Jarrod Holt is questionable for the Virginia Tech game after suffering a concussion against NCCU. Holt is the most experienced offensive lineman on the Blue Devils roster. His absence could put a damper into what is already a weak rushing attack. |
| 10/02 | 8:59am | Tyree Watkins | WR | Out | Leg | True freshman WR Tyree Watkins will miss the Virginia Tech game with an unspecified leg injury. The reserve WR is listed as the No. 3 WR behind junior Austin Kelly. | | 10/02 | 8:56am | Desmond Scott | RB | Questionable | Hamstring | True freshman RB Desmond Scott injured his hamstring during a Sept 29 practice and is questionable for the Virginia Tech game. Against NCCU last week, Scott filled in for the then-injured Jay Hollingsworth and Re'quan Boyette and rushed for 100 yards. With both Hollingsworth and Boyette set to return against Virginia Tech, it is not certain what role Scott will assume this week if he plays. |
| 09/11 | 11:14am | Anthony Young-Wiseman | S | Out For Year | Knee | True freshman DB Anthony Young-Wiseman will miss the rest of the 2009 season with a knee injury. Young-Wiseman was listed as the No. 2 SS when senior Zack Asack was dismissed from the team.
| | 08/25 | 5:14pm | Tony Jackson | RB | Out For Year | Dismissed | Junior RB Tony Jackson was dismissed from the program over the summer. He was supposed to give Duke another experienced player in the tailback rotation. RS freshman Patrick Kurunwune will have a chance to crack the rotation as a third string option. |
| 08/10 | 6:06pm | Zach Asack | QB/SS | Out For Year | Dismissed | Former starting quarterback Zach Asack has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team policy. The redshirt senior was moved from QB to Safety prior to spring's practice but it now appears sophomore Matt Daniels might move into the starting SS position for 2009. |
|
Next game: Georgia Tech at Florida State on 10/10
|
| 10/02 | 11:27am | Justin Mincey | DT | Questionable | Knee | Senior DT Justin Mincey missed the first four games of the season with a knee injury, but he practiced for the first time this season (Sept 30). He is questionable for the Boston College game. The senior starter at DT made four starts in 2008, amassing nine tackles (4.5 tackles for loss). |
| 10/02 | 11:26am | Antwane Greenlee | T | Out | Knee | Redshirt sophomore RT Antwane Greenlee suffered a Grade 3 sprain of his MCL. A timetable has not been set with regard to Greenlee's return. Greenlee was involved in a tight battle with sophomore Zebrie Sanders (2008 starter) and redshirt freshman Rhonnie Sanderson for the starting right tackle position. |
| 10/02 | 11:26am | John Prior | T | Out | Knee | True freshman OT John Prior has missed the first four games of the season with a knee injury. He is ruled out for the Boston College game. Prior is a reserve OL for the Seminoles in his true freshman season, but it appears he will receive a redshirt. | | 10/02 | 11:25am | Daniel Gard | FB | Out | Knee | Redshirt junior FB Daniel Gard did not play against USF and is ruled out for the Boston College game. Gard, the No. 1 FB on the depth chart, began spring practice as a back-up FB to Marcus Sims, who transferred. |
| 10/02 | 11:24am | Vince Williams | LB | Out | Back | Sophomore MLB Vince Williams missed the first four games of the season with a back injury and is ruled out for the Boston College game. Williams is listed as the No. 2 MLB on the Seminoles depth chart. His injury opens the door for more playing time for Rechardo Wright. |
| 10/02 | 11:24am | Aaron Gresham | LB | Out | Knee | Sophomore LB Aaron Gresham has missed two straight games with a knee injury and is ruled out for the Boston College game. The No. 3 MLB on the depth chart is suffering from an injured knee. His absence, along with the anticipated absence of No. 2 MLB Vince Williams, leaves the Seminoles thin at MLB. |
| 09/30 | 7:29pm | Demonte McAllister | DT | Doubtful | Ankle | True freshman DT Demonte McAllister has missed the first four games of the season with an ankle injury. His status for the Boston College game is doubtful. With fellow tackles Mincey and McCray close to returning, it is unlikely that McAllister will play against Boston College. McAllister remains eligible for a redshirt. |
| 09/30 | 7:23pm | Moses McCray | DT | Probable | Elbow | Sophomore DT Moses McCray did not play against USF game on Sept 26. He has practiced this week (week of Sept 27) and is probable for the Boston College game. McCray is a third-string DT behind senior Kendrick Stewart and fellow sophomore Everett Dawkins. His injury hurts FSU's depth at DT, as they have only four healthy tackles available. |
| 09/30 | 7:22pm | Jacobbi McDaniel | DE | Probable | Knee | True freshman DE Jacobbi McDaniel was chop-blocked by a USF offensive lineman late in the first half. His status for the Boston College game is probable. McDaniel was considered to be the top DE coming out of HS in Spring 2009. |
| 08/10 | 5:09pm | Marcus Sims | FB | Out For Year | Transfer | Senior fullback Marcus Sims has transferred to N. Alabama. He started eight games in his three-year Seminole career. |
|
Next game: Fresno State at Hawaii on 10/11
|
| 09/27 | 9:10am | Lorne Bell | S | Questionable | Knee | Bell left the week two game with a knee injury and did not return. The "Human Missile" sat out the last two games with a strained MCL caused by a hyperextended his knee. Reserve Marvin Haynes is starting in Bell's place and Zak Hill is getting some playing time as well. |
| 09/27 | 9:08am | Matt Akers | DE | Questionable | Shoulder | Akers injured a shoulder in week two and was wearing sling. He has sat out the last two games and is questionable to return after the idle week five. |
|
Next game: Georgia at Tennessee on 10/10
|
| 10/03 | 7:01am | Vince Vance | T | Probable | Undisclosed | Senior LT Vince Vance is battling an undisclosed injury that limited him during the Arizona State game, but he should be ready to play against LSU. Vance became the starting LT after sophomore Trinton Sturdivant suffered his second-straight season-ending knee injury. Vance is himself coming off a knee injury-shortened season in 2008. |
| 10/03 | 6:57am | Josh Davis | T | Questionable | Shoulder | Junior LT Josh Davis has not played this season despite being available the past two games (Arkansas and Arizona State). His status for the LSU game is questionable. Davis is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in January that required surgery. Head coach Mark Richt seems optimistic that he could see action soon. Davis' availability is important with starter Trinton Sturdivant being out for the season and No. 2 LT Vince Vance being slowed by injury. |
| 09/30 | 8:47pm | Quintin Banks | S | Doubtful | Knee | Junior strong safety Quintin Banks has missed the entire season to date (four games) due to a knee injury suffered during the preseason fall camp. Banks' status for the LSU game is doubtful, as he is still unable to change directions in a satisfactory manner (during practice). In Banks' absence, freshman Bacarri Rambo continues to see significant action. |
| 09/29 | 11:43pm | Kiante Tripp | DE | Doubtful | Shoulder | Junior DE Kiante Tripp has missed three games this year with a slow-healing shoulder stinger. Tripp's status for the LSU game is doubtful. The No. 2 LDE made three starts at OT in 2008. In his place, redshirt freshman Cornelius Washington (who has been impressive in practice) will see significant action. |
| 09/29 | 11:42pm | Akeem Dent | LB | Doubtful | Hamstring | Junior MLB Akeem Dent missed the Sept 26 game against Arizona State with a hamstring pull and is doubtful for the LSU game. Dent had filled in for previously injured starter Darius Dewberry at SLB (Dewberry has since returned to action). Dent is a major part of the Bulldogs' linebacker core, having made thirteen starts in his three seasons. |
| 09/29 | 11:42pm | Vance Cuff | CB | Probable | Knee | Junior CB Vance Cuff missed the Arizona State game with a knee injury he sustained the week before against Arkansas. Cuff sprained the MCL in his right knee during the third quarter of the Arkansas game and did not return. Head coach Mark Richt had said that Cuff could possibly play against ASU, but he backed off those statements as game day approached. Cuff, the No. 2 LCB behind senior Prince Miller, is upgraded to probable for the LSU game. |
| 09/28 | 7:49am | Bruce Figgins | TE | Out | Suspension | Junior TE Bruce Figgins will miss two more games to serve out a six-game suspension for violating team rules. The No. 2 TE on the depth chart is known more for his blocking abilities than playmaking abilities. Figgins started two games as a sophomore last year and recorded 32 receiving yards. |
| 09/15 | 9:57am | Kris Durham | WR | Out For Year | Shoulder | Senior WR Kris Durham will redshirt this season after injuring his shoulder during spring practice. In 2008, Durham made four starts and caught 13 passes. | | 09/14 | 10:12am | Roderick Battle | DE | Out For Year | Torn ACL | Senior DE Roderick Battle will miss the rest of the 2009 season with a torn ACL. Battle, a starter for 22 games of his career, had three tackles this season. Says head coach Mark Richt: "It's just sad for Roderick first and foremost. But it's tough on us. It's why you recruit and train players. You try to get prepared for these moments. You don't want them, but you have to prepare for them." Battle will be replaced by sophomore Justin Houston, who is returning after his two-game suspension. |
| 09/07 | 8:30am | Trinton Sturdivant | T | Out For Year | Knee | Mark Richt announced on Sept 6 that redshirt sophomore Trinton Sturdivant would miss the entire 2009 season with a torn ACL in his left knee. The starting LT tore three ligaments (including the ACL) in the same knee in 2008. Richt expects Sturdivant to recover fully in time for the 2010 season. It is believed that starting RT Clint Boling (seven starts at LT in 2008) could move over to LT to replace Sturdivant. |
| 08/27 | 7:11am | Bryce Ros | TE | Out For Year | Toe | Redshirt freshman TE Bryce Ros suffered a career-ending toe injury during UGA's fall camp. He will seek a medical scholarship this season. | | 08/25 | 6:52am | Washaun Ealey | RB | Out | Elbow | Highly touted true freshman RB Washaun Ealey has been out indefinitely since August 9 with an elbow injury. Ealey was expected to compete for playing time in UGA's "backfield by committee" scheme. While battling injury, Ealey has been moved down the depth chart in favor of walk-on RB Kalvin Daniels. |
| 08/09 | 4:27pm | Tanner Strickland | OL | Out For Year | Shoulder | Strickland injured his shoulder in off-season workouts and will sit out the 2009 season. The backup lineman played in 13 games last year as a freshman. | | 08/09 | 4:24pm | John Knox | S | Out For Year | Transfer | Backup up safety Knox has decided to transfer to Georgia Military. He started two games his freshman season and had 8 total tackles. |
| 08/09 | 4:22pm | Tony Wilson | WR | Out For Year | Ankle | Reserve wideout Wilson has been medically disqualified for the 2009 season due to an ankle injury. He started one game in 2008 before sitting the rest of the season out with injury. |
|
Next game: Georgia Tech at Florida State on 10/10
|
| 10/02 | 11:23am | Dominique Reese | S | Questionable | Shoulder | Junior FS Dominique Reese missed the North Carolina with a shoulder injury, and he is questionable for the Miss St game. Reese was tied for 2nd on the team in 2008 with three interceptions in 2008. His injury, along with the injury to Cooper Taylor (No. 2 FS), leaves the Jackets thin in the defensive backfield. |
| 09/30 | 8:57pm | Cooper Taylor | S | Doubtful | Undisclosed | Sophomore FS Cooper Taylor missed the Sept 26 game against North Carolina with an undisclosed injury and is doubtful for the Miss St game. Taylor is the No. 2 FS on the depth chart behind starter Dominique Reese. Taylor's injury, along with the injury to Reese, leaves the Jackets thin in the defensive backfield. |
| 09/30 | 8:57pm | Tyler Melton | WR | Probable | Knee | Sophomore WR Tyler Melton has missed four straight games to begin the 2009 season. His status for the Miss St game is probable. The projected starter is recovering from an MCL sprain. Melton caught five passes for 53 yards in 2008 and made seven starts. |
| 09/30 | 8:56pm | Jaybo Shaw | QB | Probable | Collarbone | Georgia Tech backup QB Jaybo Shaw broke his collarbone during a scrimmage in mid August. He played in seven games and started one last year. Shaw practiced with the QBs on Sept 30 and is listed as probable in the latest Georgia Tech injury report, a sign that the sophomore reserve could be nearing his return. | | 09/30 | 8:55pm | Richard Watson | RB | Probable | Multiple | Redshirt freshman B-back Richard Watson is probable for the Miss St game after missing three straight games with hamstring and ankle injuries. The third-string B-back last played in the season opener against Jacksonville State on Sept 5. |
| 09/29 | 11:50pm | Robert Hall | DE | Out | Knee | Junior DE Robert Hall injured his right knee against Miami (Sept 17) and is expected to miss four weeks. At that time, it will be determined if his injury requires surgery to heal. Hall recorded 13 tackles as a reserve in 2008 and had been the starter at right DE in 2009 prior to his injury. Fellow junior Anthony Egbuniwe will fill in for Hall at starting DE. |
| 09/29 | 11:49pm | Kyle Jackson | LB | Out For Year | Foot | Sophomore LB Kyle Jackson will miss the 2009 season to have season-ending surgery on his foot. Jackson sustained an injury to the Lisfranc joint of the top of his foot during preseason camp. The No. 1 MLB ranked third on the team in 2008 with 61 tackles (35 solo). Jackson, last year's ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, did not appear in a game this season. He will likely apply for a sixth year of elibigility because he has already used his redshirt year. |
| 09/06 | 11:00am | Jordan Luallen | QB | Out For Year | Ankle | True freshman Jordan Luallen has not practiced since Aug. 8 because of an ankle injury. Luallen is a likely candidate for a redshirt according to the Georgia Tech coaching staff, as they do not plan to play him this season. Redshirt freshman Tevin Washington and true freshman David Sims will prepare to back up starting junior QB Josh Nesbitt. |
| 08/28 | 8:08am | JC Lanier | DT | Out For Year | Shoulder | True freshman DT JC Lanier will miss the entire 2009 season after having season-ending shoulder surgery. Lanier's absence could lead to some depth issues in what is already a young DT rotation for the Yellow Jackets. |
|
Next game: Idaho at San Jose State on 10/10
|
| 08/21 | 10:38pm | Virdell Larkins | S | Out For Year | Left Team | Senior safety Virdell Larkins has left the program, HC Robb Akey announced after Idaho's second scrimmage Wednesday. The third-year coach declined to give a reason for the departure of last year's leading tackler but did say it was an unfortunate situation. The Vandals have senior Jeromy Jones and junior Brandon Artz who might be able to fill in at the free safety spot. |
|
Next game: Kentucky at South Carolina on 10/10
|
| 10/03 | 6:42am | Justin Jeffries | T | Questionable | Achilles | Senior RT Justin Jeffries sustained an Achilles injury during the Florida game. His status for the Alabama game is questionable. His status for the game against Alabama is probable. Drake, the No. 2 TE on the depth chart in 2009, was the second leading receiver (receiving yards) in 2008. |
| 10/03 | 6:41am | John Conner | FB | Probable | Shoulder | Senior FB John Conner sprained his right shoulder against Florida. His status for the Alabama game is probable. Conner is considered one of the top FBs in the SEC primarily because of his blocking prowess. His absence could greatly affect Kentucky's ability to run the football against Alabama's daunting defense. |
| 10/03 | 6:40am | Micah Johnson | LB | Probable | Toe | Senior LB Micah Johnson is battling a turf toe injury that is keeping him out of practice (week of Sept 28). His status for the Alabama game is probable. Johnson is the top defensive player for the Wildcats, having led the team in tackles for loss in 2008 (10.5). |
| 10/03 | 6:39am | Sam Maxwell | LB | Probable | Toe | Senior LB Sam Maxwell is battling a turf toe injury that kept him out of practice recently (Sept 30). His status for the Alabama game is probable. Maxwell is the No. 2 WLB on the depth chart behind sophomore Danny Trevathan. |
| 10/03 | 6:39am | Christian Johnson | G | Probable | Rib | Senior LG Christian Johnson suffered a rib injury during the Florida game. His status for the Alabama game is probable. Johnson is the No. 1 LG on the depth chart ahead of sophomore Jake Lanefski. |
| 10/03 | 6:38am | Moncell Allen | RB | Probable | Knee | Junior RB Moncell Allen has a slight MCL sprain in his knee that limits his practice time. He is available for the Alabama game according to head coach Rich Brooks. Allen is the No. 3 RB on the depth chart behind senior Alfonso Smith and junior Derrick Locke. |
| 10/03 | 6:35am | Kyrus Lanxter | WR | Probable | Hamstring | Junior WR Kyrus Lanxter has missed two straight games with a hamstring pull. His status for the Alabama game is probable. Lanxter played the entire 2008 season, making one start and amassing 185 receiving yards on 23 receptions. He is a projected starter at WR this season. Sophomore Gene McCaskill will significant time if Lanxter can't go. |
| 10/02 | 9:13am | Paul Warford | CB | Out | Quad | Junior CB Paul Warford was held out of practice on Sept 29 with a quadriceps strain.
