Memphis head coach Porter announced he had replaced defensive coordinator Jay Hopson with two of his assistants: defensive line coach Mike DuBose and linebackers coach Galen Scott.

The sophomore's status for UAB is upgraded to probable, however. He was the No.1 tailback at the beginning of the season and was the team's leading returning rusher from last year. Billy Foster and freshman Artaves Gibson have been filling in at tailback.

Senior Tanner Rehrer filled in for Rucker in the last game and will likely start in his place.

The RS freshman has been ruled eligible and can compete immediately. Malone was rated a four-star prospect and recorded over 4,000 receiving yards with 57 TDs during his high school career. He has been practicing with the team since August and coach Porter said this gives them instant depth and playmaking ability.
09/073:14amTaylor ReedQB Starter NoneDespite Andy Summerlin being probable for the week two matchup at Arkansas State, coach Porter has named true freshman Taylor Reed the starting QB for that game. Both QBs battled Wake Forest transfer Skylar Jones all through the preseason for the starting job. Price liked how productive Reed was in relief of the injured Summerlin in week one.
09/054:09pmAndy SummerlinQB Probable AnkleSummerlin injured an ankle in the season opener, but it is not considered serious. The sophomore starter has already been upgraded to probable for week two, however he has been replaced in the starting lineup by freshman Taylor Reed.
09/0410:53pmBilly FosterRB/WR Questionable shoulderFoster suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener and is questionable for week two at Arkansas State. The senior played well before leaving the game, rushing 13 times for 63 yards. If both Foster and Rhodes are unable to play Saturday, true freshman Artaves Gibson would likely receive the bulk of the carries.

Coach Porter, in his second year, has three other signal callers to choose from.
